Jean was born and raised in Milan, Indiana, a small town in the Southeastern part of the state. Upon graduating from high school she married her high school sweetheart the same summer. Fortunately she was able to spend 3 years with Kent in England and Scotland, where he was serving with the Air Force. Upon returning to civilian life, Jean joined the American Legion Auxiliary in Aurora Indiana in 1955.
Jean and Kent have 3 children; Chris, Jane, and Michael; 4 grandchildren; and 1 great-granddaughter. When the children were all in school she worked at the local newspaper as a bookkeeper for 4 years. Then she bought a flower shop, and a year later bought another one in a neighboring town. She operated both for 10 years, then moved to the Daytona Beach, Fl. area, where she worked at a bank for 12 years, moving from teller to counselor and eventually branch manager before retiring. Upon retiring she and Kent moved to Alpharetta. After having dropped her membership in the ALA for a few years, she was reinstated and has now been a member of unit 251 Duluth for the past nine years. Soon there after became a member of Cabane 402. As a LaFemme she has held several offices at C-402; LaPresidente, Sous LaPresidente, and La Avocat. She has served the Grande de Georgia as La Garde de La Porte, La Conducteur, and Sous LaPresidente. At the Nationale level she has been Scrapbook Chairperson for La Presidente Passé Audrey O’Keefe, La Aide de Femme for La Presidente Passé Berta Henderson, and is currently serving as Sous LaDrapeau Nationale.
She says she has loved every minute of La Femme, and looks forward to this year with great Enthusiasm, and looks forward to visiting every Cabane.
